Day Seventeen

“So you should not be like cowering fearful slaves. You should behave instead like Gods very own children, adopted into his family-calling him “Father, dear father. For the Holy Spirit speaks to us deep in our hearts and tells us that we are God’s children.”

Romans 8:15-16

I was with a group of extended family members a few months ago. There was laughter, and the telling of childhood mishaps. There was “catching up” in the ins and outs of everyday life. There were also sweet conversations about church and the Lord. At one moment I sat back in the doorway and scanned though the little huddled groups filling the big family room. I pause and realized, “these are My people”, and I told my heart, “This is where I belong”. That sense of belonging was almost medicinal. It made my heart feel light and full. The funny thing is…I wasn’t born into this family; I married into it. And when you marry into it…it’s almost like you’re adopted….

In case you doubt whether there is a spiritual war going on for your heart and your mind….think back to the last time you felt fear, or doubt. Maybe you’ve felt like you couldn’t ever measure up or you’ll always be too much…or not enough….That sweet friend is spiritual warfare…and the enemy wants you to feel like a cowering slave to fear and sin. But friend….you don’t belong there…..if you’ve made a decision to be part of God’s family…you’ve been adopted…you’ve been set free of condemnation…So this morning I invite you…like family…sit in a corner of your living room and have a conversation with the Holy Spirit.

I’m praying for you this morning. I’m praying you allow the Holy Spirit to speak deep into your heart…I’m praying the Holy Spirit tells you… “This is where you belong….you are God’s children”….As you are still in His presence…will you pray for your NewLife family to know this today too!?
