Day Eighteen

23 And so it happened just as the Scriptures say: “Abraham believed God, and God counted him as righteous because of his faith.”He was even called the friend of God. James 2:23 What is a friend? What is a friend “who sticks closer than a brother”? A friend is a person whom one knows and with whom one has a bond of mutual affection. Linda Grayson writes, “There is nothing better than a friend, unless it is a friend with chocolate.” We were created for relationships. Abraham had a relationship with God. God had a relationship with Abraham. He was a friend of God. Someone said, “I would rather walk with a friend in the dark, than alone in the light.” We all have friends. Some of our friendships are healthy and some are unhealthy. We need to cultivate healthy friendships within a community of healthy friends. The only way I can be in that community is becoming a healthy friend. I need examine my heart. I need to check my ego at the door. I need to secure my vertical relationship with Jesus as the redeemer of my soul, so that He becomes the center of my horizontal relationships with my friends. Friendships can be messy, but God jumps into the mess of our lives with His redeeming love. We do have a “friend who sticks closer than a brother.” His name is Jesus.

Take time to pray for your friends. Pray this morning for your own friendship with Jesus. Pray for a revival in our community, city and nation.
