Day 6
He who comes from above is above all. He who is of the earth belongs to the earth and

speaks in an earthly way. He who comes from heaven is above all. He bears witness
to what he has seen and heard, yet no one receives his testimony. Whoever receives
his testimony sets his seal to this, that God is true. For he whom God has sent utters
the words of God, for he gives the Spirit without measure. The Father loves the Son
and has given all things into his hand. Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life;
whoever does not obey the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God remains on him.
John 3:31-36
Jesus’s cousin was John the Baptist. He was the last Old Testament prophet. God used
John the Baptist to prepare the way for Jesus. John was homeless, just like Jesus. He
spent most of his time living in the wilderness and proclaiming the coming of Jesus. He
was not a local favorite, because he preached the coming judgment of God. He was
preparing a way in the wilderness. Eugene Peterson wrote, “The One that God sent
speaks God’s words. And don’t think he rations out the Spirit in bits and pieces. The
Father loves the Son extravagantly. He turned everything over to him so he could give it
away—a lavish distribution of gifts. That is why whoever accepts and trusts the Son gets
in on everything, life complete and forever!” (verses 34-35) God in all His wisdom
turned all things over to Jesus. Why? For one reason and one reason only…
so that God could shower the world with His grace….and give it away, lavishly
distributing the gifts He longs to share with each one of His children. He healed the
lame. He healed the deaf. He healed the blind. He healed the sick. He healed the lepers.
He just gave and gave and kept on giving to all of those in need. I was in need of
rescuing. I was dead in my sins, and God brought me back to life through His Son. I’m
grateful for the gift of eternal life. I deserved the wrath of God, but Jesus gave me life
Spend time this morning praying for more of Jesus in your life. Pray for more of
