“When I saw him, I fell at his feet as though dead. Then he placed his right hand on me and said: “Do not be afraid. I am the First and the Last. I am the Living One; I was dead, and now look, I am alive forever and ever! And I hold the keys of death and Hades.” Revelation 1:17-18
Do you remember what it was like when you first saw someone that you liked, I mean really liked more than a friend? Do you remember your feelings? Do you remember looking but not wanting to be found out that you were actually looking? Remember Zaccheus, that wee little man who climbed up in the sycamore tree to take a look at Jesus, but he did not want to be found out. But Jesus saw him and called him out of that tree. In the same manner, John sees Jesus on the island of Patmos. He falls at Jesus’ feet as though dead.
A good friend reminded me, that sin doesn’t make us bad, it makes us dead. John’s posture before the resurrected Jesus is humility. He doesn’t bow to Jesus, but rather falls at his feet as one who is dead. We are dead in our transgressions but made alive in Jesus Christ. I deserved death but God rich in His mercy gave me life through the blood of Jesus. Don’t miss Jesus’ reaction to John’s humility, He places his right hand on him and said: “Don’t be afraid.” In the midst of John’s fears, Jesus comes as the Alpha and Omega, the Living One who was dead but is alive forever and ever! Let’s capture Jesus in this New Year! He holds the keys of death and life.
Pray for Jesus to hold the affections of your heart. Pray for more humility, so Jesus can place his right hand on you and shout, “Don’t be afraid.”
I’m praying for you this morning.
