“Where is Sarah, your wife? they asked him. In the tent, Abraham replied. Then one of them said, about this time next year I will return and your wife, Sarah will have a son. Now Sarah was listening to this conversation from the tent nearby. And since Abraham and Sarah were both long past the age of having children, she laughed…”
About the time I traded in the saltine crackers for the nausea, and began carrying the Super-sized bottle of Tums for heartburn; we started “nesting”. We painted the room, we bought the car seat, and we put the crib together. We were getting ready for a baby. A swollen belly and swollen ankles were proof that something was coming. I know that the people we read about in God’s word were indeed real life people and not just characters in some really big book. And I wonder about them sometimes….I wonder what they looked like and what life really looked like for them. I wonder about their encounters with God and how they believed in some very very difficult circumstances. I wonder about Sarah. What did she look like and when was it that she stopped laughing and realized that what she’d heard was real. Was it somewhere between the saltine and “Tums” stage? When did she start nesting?….. was it when she saw the evidence of God’s promise in a swelling belly or before?
Before God told Sarah about His plan, he’d told Abraham. In Genesis 15:5 we see Abraham having an encounter with God. The great I Am says “Look up into the heavens and count the stars if you can. Your descendants will be like that-too many to count. And Abraham….BELIEVED The Lord, and the Lord declared Him Righteous because of his Faith!”
Beth Moore says “For the most part we have dumbed down New Testament Christianity and accepted our Reality as theology rather than Biblical theology as our reality. We’ve reversed the standard by walking by sight and not by faith. We want to be the best of what we see, but frankly what we see is far removed from God’s best.” 2 Corinthians 5:7 says “For we walk not by sight, but by faith..”
In what areas of your life are you walking by sight and not by faith..have you been longing…praying…walking….wrestling…trusting…doubting ….. ?
If we are to have a theology (what we believe about the nature of God) we need to know what His word says about Him. Pray that God will give you a passion for His word, so that you may be able to discern what is truth and what is not. Pray that He will help you know and believe His truth. Pray that you will have faith like Abraham…he believed God.
Pray that NewLife Gathering will be a body who knows, believes and practices faith by growing in the grace and the knowledge of Him.
