“One thing I ask from the Lord, this only do I seek: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to gaze on the beauty of the Lord and to seek him in his temple. For in the day of trouble he will keep me safe in his dwelling; he will hide me in the shelter of his sacred tent and set me high upon a rock.” Psalm 27:4-5
David was a shepherd. He spent a lot of time with sheep. He spent sleepless nights protecting his sheep from predators. He had a lot of time searching for lost sheep. In many cases, he was the only one searching, looking and protecting the sheep, but David found his strength and protection from another source. The object of his faith was God and God alone. He petitions the Lord, “this only do I seek…to seek him in his temple.” David’s mind, heart and soul are secure in the house of the Lord and “gazing upon the beauty of the Lord.” AW Tozer writes, “The reason why many are still troubled, still seeking, still making little forward progress is because they haven’t yet come to the end of themselves. We’re still trying to give orders, and interfering with God’s work within us.” Honestly, I’m still searching because I’m having a hard time giving up control. God is waiting to keep you in the day of trouble in His dwelling safe and secure. God is ready to set you high upon the rock in the shelter of his sacred tent. He will keep you and set you “high upon a rock” safe in the “day of trouble.” Surrender your heart to God. Trust God to deliver you. Run to the “shelter of his sacred tent.” I’m praying for you this morning to “gaze upon the beauty of the Lord.” This is a great day to seek the Lord and all His glory.
