21 Days of Prayer: August 15

Day Ten

“You said, ‘No, we will get our help from Egypt…They will give us swift horses for riding into battle. But the only swiftness you are going to see is the swiftness of your enemies chasing you! One of them will chase a thousand of you. Five of them will make all of you flee. You will be left like a lonely flagpole on a hill or a tattered banner on a distant mountaintop…a tattered banner on a distant mountaintop.'” Isaiah 30:16-17

The Israelites were held in oppressive bondage by the Egyptians for 430 years! Yet here we see them longing to collaborate with the very source of their previous bondage! I wish I wasn’t like these grumbling Israelites. But I am just like them. When I have a problem in my life I want relief and an answer to that problem right away! So I think of things I can hurry and do to remedy my problems. But sometimes the answer isn’t so easy and the solution isn’t a quick one, and some days I feel like this passage…”a tattered banner on a mountaintop.” What an incredible word picture. Can’t you see this freshly made banner when it was new…flapping proudly it’s color and regal shape…but through battles and exposure to the elements it stands; but the colors have faded, it’s covered in smudge from many battles, and it is tattered and torn. I feel tattered and torn by life’s battles. I want relief and a solution to life’s challenges, so I take matters into my own hands and look to solve them in my own strength…

“So The Lord must wait for you to come to Him so He can show you His love and compassion. For The Lord is a faithful God. Blessed are those who wait for His help.” Isaiah 30:18

Take your tattered, war-torn heart and return to The Lord! Come to Him, sit at His feet and lay your burdens into His hands. Ask Him to forgive you for returning so quickly to the place that only leads to more bondage. Spend this day thanking and praising Him for being a Faithful God!
