21 Days of Prayer and Fasting (Overtime): January 30

Day Twenty-Three

“But the king said to Araunah, “No, but I will buy it from you for a price. I will not offer burnt offerings to the LORD my God that cost me nothing.” So David bought the threshing floor and the oxen for fifty shekels of silver.” 2 Samuel 24:24

The advertisement simply read: Men wanted for hazardous journey, small wages, bitter cold, long months of complete darkness, constant danger, safe return doubtful. Honor and recognition in case of success. That advertisement appeared in a London newspaper and thousands of men responded! It was signed by the noted Arctic explorer, Sir Earnest Shackleton, and that’s what made the difference. I don’t know, but would you be up for the challenge?? I love a challenge, but don’t know if exploring in the Arctic with sled dogs and cold weather, is my kind of challenge. I prefer warm weather challenges!! Are you living out your faith in a way that costs little, or are you living in such a way that it really costs you? I love the challenge of King David, “I will not offer to the Lord that which cost me nothing!” Does your living out the faith cost you? Abraham was willing to sacrifice his son, Isaac who was in his late teens at this point. As he was on his way up the hill with his father, he no doubt got the drift of what was going on. Especially when he was laid on the altar. He might have said, “Dad, I don’t know about this. Let’s reconsider this for a moment. You’re an old guy. You haven’t got much longer, why don’t we offer you as a sacrifice?” Isaac could have gotten down off that altar, but he was willing to trust his father. Isaac loved his father. We do know that when Abraham raised that dagger, he believed in his heart that God would raise his son from the dead. In Hebrews 11 says Abraham “acted in confidence that God was able to raise Isaac up, even from the dead.” Just as Abraham laid it down at Moriah, God was able to pick it up at Calvary.

Someone has said, “God must do His work in us; before He can ever do a work through us!” Begin this morning in confession, seeking forgiveness of your sins that have kept God from working in your life. Pray for God to make your faith count today. Make a difference for Jesus all day today!!
