21 Days of Prayer and Fasting: January 23

Day Sixteen

“Have mercy on me, O God, according to your unfailing love; according to your great compassion blot out my transgressions. Wash away all my iniquity and cleanse me from my sin.” Psalm 51:1-2

When was the last time you went to the waste and recycling center?? I have to be honest with you, it has not been a part of my daily routine, but I had a full truckload of recycling and waste materials that needed to be dropped off at the waste center. I rolled up to the center and found 10 huge bins just waiting for my trash, but had no idea that each one was specifically marked. So, I picked the middle bin, because there was no line and began throwing my boxes, when I was interrupted by one of the center directors who informed me that this bin was for plastics items only. I parked my truck and began my scavenger hunt locating the right containers for my recycling and waste materials. I really believe we handle our sin in the same way. It has become like a scavenger hunt in search of forgiveness for our sins. We tend to compartmentalize our sin and then recycle it over and over again. Our sin is waste that needs to be thrown away. Michael Horton writes, “The doctrine of sin has never been a big seller. Just the same, we are encouraged to find that this story has another chapter, for it very well could have ended with God’s judgment. Certainly, Satan thought he had finally ruined God’s plans for the universe. The human race was the showcase of divine creation. Human beings were uniquely designed to have a relationship with God. Here was the creature in all of the universe that bore the divine signature, a priceless integration of body and soul, now lying in ruins. But Lucifer forgot to figure in God’s love and mercy. Who would have thought God would set out to recover a race of rebels? Just as the race declared war, God announced peace.”

This morning, don’t forget to take out the garbage of sin. Pray for the forgiveness of your sins. Let God wash away all your iniquity and cleanse you from your sin. Take your sins to Jesus today!!
