21 Days of Prayer and Fasting: January 19

Day Twelve

“Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.” 2 Corinthians 9:7

Are you a cheerful giver?? Do you enjoy giving of yourself, your talents and resources?? According to statistics, the breakdown of giving looks like this: 20% of members give and do 80% of the church’s work. I don’t know if that is true, but I really want to be a generous giver. The roof of the church hall of a little Georgia church, at the turn of the 20th century, was falling down. The members of the church held regular prayer meetings in the hall after service to pray for funds to repair the roof. There was an older man, known to be very tight with his money, who used to attend and sit near the back of the hall. He would sneak out just before the collection plates came around at the end of the prayer meeting. One Sunday, he was held up on his way to the prayer meeting and could only find a seat at the front of the church. During the prayer meeting, a piece of the roof fell and hit him on the head. Feeling that God had spoken to him, he stood up and said, “Lord, I’ll give $100 dollars.” A voice from the back of the church said, “Hit him again, Lord, hit him again.” I’m a little hard-headed, but God reminds me of His generosity in my life on a daily basis. God is generous. He is generous in His love for you and me. He is generous in His grace for you. I don’t want to become a giver for me, I want to become a generous giver for God!! Generous giving is contagious!! God, give us the gift of giving back to you what you have so freely given to us!! Pray for God to be the only source of your generosity!! Give God your very best gifts today!!
